OSB Fevzi Mercan Mosque

Sacred spaces require a lighting language that transcends the purely functional — one that fosters contemplation, reverence, and a sense of the divine. The OSB Fevzi Mercan Mosque project presented a unique opportunity to craft such an environment within a contemporary architectural framework that pays homage to classical Ottoman aesthetics. Our team approached the commission with both technical precision and deep cultural sensitivity.
The design philosophy centred on layering light to mirror the natural rhythm of the day. During morning prayers, soft warm tones bathe the interior in a gentle, welcoming glow. As daylight fades, the lighting gradually transitions to create an atmosphere of serene intimacy. Special attention was given to the mihrab and minbar, where focused beams highlight the craftsmanship of the stone carving and calligraphic inscriptions without overwhelming the delicate geometry.
Exterior illumination was equally carefully considered. The minarets and dome are lit to be visible as a landmark in the industrial district, serving both as a navigational beacon and a statement of cultural identity within the urban landscape. Energy-efficient LED systems with smart dimming controls ensure the mosque remains sustainable while maintaining the timeless beauty expected of such a revered space.
